Tristan Thompson Paternity Suit: Discussion Regarding Paternity

Basketball star, Tristan Thompson has three children with three different women. However, Thompson was involved in a Paternity Lawsuit with fitness model, Maralee Nichols who welcomed her son into the world in December 2021. When the child was born, Nichols claimed that Tristan Thompson was the Father to which he quickly denied as he was still in a relationship with Khloe Kardashian at the time, with whom he shares a daughter.

When Nichols stated that Thompson was indeed the father, he quickly denied the statement and ordered for a paternity test. The results of DNA testing ultimately proved that Thompson was indeed the biological Father. A voluntary declaration of paternity “shall establish the paternity of a child and shall have the same force and effect as a judgment of paternity by a court.” (Rule 1413(c); Fam.Code, § 7573.) Thompson has since admitted of the time that he spent with Maralee Nichols and has publicly apologized to Khloe Kardashian. Kardashian and Thompsons’ relationship has since ended and Thompson has recently signed to the Chicago Bulls. While Tristan Thompson reports that he has no interest in seeing his new born son, he is still set to pay Nichols nearly $40,000 a month to provide for a lifestyle similar to that of his daughter, True, who lives in Hidden Hills.

If Maralee Nichols had been denied paternity testing, she claims that she would not be able to provide support. Now, due to the advances in genetic testing, Nichols is now being awarded $40,000 monthly in spousal support.

The ins and outs of establishing paternity can be confusing and there are specific time limits for contesting and/or establishing paternity, depending on the situation.
